Safety Consultant - Nuclear
About this role
Safety Consultant for Xcel Energy's nuclear operations, responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations across multiple business units. Focus areas include hazard identification, accident investigation, regulatory audits, ergonomic assessments, and radiation safety programs to minimize employee injuries and illnesses.
Responsibilities
- —Provide technical safety consulting services including hazard identification, evaluation, and recommendations for minimizing employee injuries through audits, ergonomic assessments, and accident investigation
- —Conduct worksite and crew observations to identify safety hazards; provide annual safety audits and self-assessments to measure hazard controls and regulatory compliance
- —Function as a consultant to local safety committees, employees, and management on safety compliance and program development
- —Monitor and interpret federal, state, and local safety and health regulations; recommend compliance options aligned with safety policies and programs
- —Develop training lesson plans and provide regulatory compliance training for new hire safety orientations and annual OSHA-required training
- —Serve as a resource on interpretation and compliance of current safety regulations
- —Assist site management with contractor safety compliance and work with contractor safety consultants during projects
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience; at least 3 years of work experience within the safety field; recognized safety certification.
Desired
Certified Safety Professional (BCSP) designation; Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) certification; Radiation Worker Training (Rad Worker I & II); Department of Energy Nuclear Safety Training or work history; Human Performance Improvement (HPI) training.
