About this role
Senior Project Manager role at Xcel Energy's Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant, managing capital and operational improvement projects with budgets exceeding $30 million. Lead end-to-end project delivery including planning, execution, stakeholder management, and financial oversight while ensuring alignment with fleet safety and operational objectives. Work directly with nuclear operations, engineering, and corporate teams to execute strategic initiatives in a regulated nuclear environment.
Responsibilities
- —Identify quality project options, develop business cases, and secure required approvals
- —Lead requirements gathering and planning processes while engaging all key stakeholders
- —Develop solution designs that define project scope, align with fleet and corporate strategies, and identify/address dependencies
- —Define deliverables, success metrics, and key milestone schedules
- —Develop detailed project schedules including resource hours, work plans, budgets, and cost/benefit analysis
- —Conduct project closeout phases and maintain project notebooks
- —Ensure successful delivery of committed project benefits and operational metrics in complex nuclear environments
- —Independently manage detailed project plans to approved scope and schedule
- —Define and manage regular status reporting processes to monitor progress and resolve risks
- —Function as project controller, managing budgeting, forecasting, and actuals tracking
- —Facilitate RFP and contract management processes
- —Review actuals versus planned budget and recommend corrective actions
- —Forecast, schedule, and manage internal and external resources
- —Manage assigned contracts and associated payments/performance requirements
- —Develop comprehensive resource plans for multi-functional teams
- —Provide training and coaching to less experienced project team members
- —Manage scope change processes and identify risks with mitigation strategies
- —Communicate project status to all organizational levels and external organizations including INPO and NRC
- —Establish collaborative working relationships with senior leaders to maximize project efficiency
Qualifications
- —Minimum 10 years of work experience in engineering, construction management, or comparable function
- —Minimum 5 years of nuclear industry experience
- —Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, Business Management, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- —5 years' experience in project management and process improvement
- —Demonstrated ability to facilitate, train, lead, and influence working partners, vendors, and industry groups
- —Ability to adapt to change quickly
- —Experience providing work direction to diverse/distributed work teams
- —Experience managing multiple projects or priorities
- —Vendor/contract management experience
Desired
- —Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
- —MBA or other advanced degree
- —Professional Engineer Certification
