Required qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering. At least 10 years of relevant experience in nuclear waste characterization engineering and waste acceptance projects. Strong knowledge of nuclear waste management systems (LLW, ILW, VLLW classification and handling). Fluent in Spanish (speaking and writing) and English with proven technical reporting skills. Valid driving license. Ability to work effectively in international teams.
About this role
Lead engineering services for radioactive waste treatment and final storage at Westinghouse, including waste acceptance criteria development, process system design, regulatory interface support, and facility design integration. Report to the Waste Characterization and Disposal Manager while providing technical leadership on complex waste management projects spanning Low Level Waste (LLW), Intermediate Level Waste (ILW), Very Low Level Waste (VLLW), and large-dimension waste streams.
Responsibilities
- Define waste acceptance criteria, procedures, and technical specifications for nuclear waste streams
- Calculate waste package activities for LLW, ILW, VLLW, storage units, and large-dimension waste using statistical techniques; validate radionuclide vectors and scaling factors from sampling data
- Prepare engineering documents including calculation reports, licensing documents, and technical specifications
- Conduct production control of waste generation in Nuclear Power Plants; ensure Quality Assurance and regulatory compliance
- Lead engineering design and analyses to resolve complex, poorly-defined waste management problems
- Coordinate and integrate complex technical projects across diverse teams; manage budget, schedule, and project risks
- Participate in proposal preparation with technical descriptions and effort calculations
- Provide technical leadership on code, procedure, and method development updates
- Represent the engineering organization in audits, technical reviews, and external regulatory collaborations
- Mentor and coach mid-level, senior, and less-experienced engineers
