About this role

Test Engineer performing physical and electrical testing, inspection, and evaluation of materials, equipment, and systems for PSEG's electric, gas utility, and nuclear power generation operations. Conduct laboratory and field work including infrared thermography, high voltage safety testing, and cable inspections while maintaining personnel and public safety compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct physical and electrical testing, inspection, and evaluation of materials, equipment, and systems following prescribed procedures
  • Perform infrared thermographic inspections of overhead circuits, switchyard components, transformers, and power generation electrical equipment
  • Inspect, clean, adjust, calibrate, and repair test instruments and equipment to ensure proper operation and accuracy
  • Perform cable inspections and high voltage safety equipment cleaning, repair, and testing
  • Develop and write reports on tests and investigations with accurate computations
  • Witness and approve tests and examinations conducted by division personnel, manufacturers, or testing agencies
  • Maintain database records for infrared and high voltage safety equipment
  • Modify test procedures, apparatus, and computer applications to meet specific test requirements
  • Obtain necessary field clearances and arrange work performance at nuclear facilities
  • Meet all nuclear requirements for unescorted site access

Qualifications

  • Completed technical training equivalent to two years of college
  • Working knowledge of test instruments, test equipment, computers, and test methods
  • Basic working knowledge of electrical power applications, electronic circuitry, chemistry, materials science, and physics
  • Skill and knowledge necessary for required certifications in pertinent test disciplines
  • Completion of all training required for position duties
  • Meet and maintain nuclear requirements for unescorted site access
  • Valid U.S. driver's license with satisfactory driving record
  • Valid Real ID or approved alternate documentation
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status (required for DOE 10 CFR 810 compliance)

Desired

  • BS Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience working in utility switchyards, substations, and nuclear power generation facilities
  • Experience performing infrared thermography and materials evaluation
  • Experience with calibration, repair, and testing of electrical test equipment
  • Knowledge of SAP
