Senior Welding Engineer
About this role
Westinghouse Senior Welding Engineer supporting AP1000 nuclear power plant fabrication, erection, and maintenance. Develop welding specifications, manage supplier documentation and nonconformances, conduct weld failure analysis, and interface across engineering disciplines and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with AWS, ASME, and NRC requirements.
Responsibilities
- —Review contract, design, and regulatory requirements to develop project welding specifications
- —Provide disposition of supplier requests for information and nonconformances; review supplier documentation including weld maps, PQRs, WPSs, and Welding Programs for conformance
- —Provide materials engineering support including material selection, substitution, heat treatment, bending, and forming requirements
- —Interface with Global Supply Chain and Supplier Performance Engineering for fab-follow activities on AP1000 systems, structures, and components
- —Evaluate weld failures and conduct causal analyses
- —Travel to suppliers and vendors to support welding program activities, fabrication troubleshooting, and welding personnel qualification
- —Provide technical consultation to ANI, Code, Regulatory bodies, clients, and internal customers on welding-related issues
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or related field. 4+ years experience as a Welding Engineer. Strong knowledge of AWS and ASME Codes (Section II, III, IX, B31.1; AWS D1.1, D1.3, D1.4, D1.6, D9.1, D10.10). Experience with fabrication and erection of steel structures and piping systems. Experience qualifying welders and developing/troubleshooting welding procedures. Proficiency with SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW, and shear stud welding processes. Ability to travel domestically and internationally. Ability to secure unescorted access authorization to plant sites. Physically capable of walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and meeting vision/hearing requirements.
Desired
Nuclear component fabrication and modular construction experience. Strong knowledge of ASME NQA-1 quality assurance and Welding Program best practices. Field machining and precision measurement experience for piping and equipment installation. ASME or AWS committee/sub-committee participation or membership. Prior nuclear industry experience.
Location
Hybrid: 2 days/week on-site at Rock Hill, SC or Cranberry Township, PA; domestic and international travel required.
