Senior Nuclear Safety Anaylsis Engineer
About this role
Senior Nuclear Safety Analysis Engineer at Westinghouse Fauske & Associates, conducting thermal-hydraulics modeling, severe accident analysis, and validation experiments for nuclear power plants and waste treatment facilities. Hybrid role based in the Chicago area (Burr Ridge, IL).
Responsibilities
- —Perform thermal-hydraulics modeling and analysis including heat/mass transfer, radiological source term analysis, and severe accident modeling for nuclear power plants and waste treatment facilities
- —Conduct system performance analysis for thermal hydraulic phenomena including water hammer effects
- —Implement mathematical models into C++, Fortran, and Python codebases; support software development efforts
- —Execute validation experiments and verify first-of-a-kind safety evaluations
- —Prepare technical documentation for regulatory and internal evaluations
Qualifications
BS in Nuclear, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering; 6+ years of experience in nuclear safety analysis or thermal-hydraulics engineering; strong background in thermodynamics, transport phenomena (momentum, heat, mass transfer), and multi-phase flow modeling; proficiency in mathematical modeling.
Desired
Experience with MAAP (Modular Accident Analysis Program), RELAP, or other severe accident analysis codes; PRA (Probabilistic Risk Assessment) knowledge; proficiency in C++, Fortran, Python, Visual Basic, or MathCAD; source control experience.
Location
Hybrid: 2 days/week on-site in Burr Ridge, IL; remote work considered for highly qualified candidates.
