Senior Engineer
About this role
Senior Mechanical Engineer at Westinghouse designing and analyzing Reactor Mechanical Products (RMP), including reactor vessel head assemblies, control rod drive mechanisms, and related nuclear reactor components. Role involves design engineering, structural analysis, fabrication/installation support, outage response, and mentoring of junior engineers. Individual contributor with comprehensive product knowledge across PWR and BWR reactor systems.
Responsibilities
- —Design engineering solutions and develop fabrication/installation drawings for RMP products
- —Author and verify design documentation including specifications, structural analyses, test plans, and design reports
- —Perform structural and mechanical analyses using Ansys Workbench, Ansys APDL, and hand calculations
- —Provide engineering support during fabrication, installation, and plant upgrades
- —Provide emergent technical support for outage issues related to RMP products
- —Ensure designs comply with ASME B&PVC Section III, AISC standards, and NRC regulations
- —Collaborate with cross-functional teams on integrated system solutions
- —Coach and review work of lower-level engineering staff
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering with Structural Engineering focus
- —6+ years of mechanical engineering experience in nuclear or heavy equipment manufacturing
- —Demonstrated proficiency with Ansys Workbench, Ansys APDL, GTStrudl, and hand calculation methods for structural analysis
- —Willing to travel 5–10% of the time
Desired
- —Experience with ASME B&PVC Section III Subsection NF (nuclear component design standards)
- —Experience with AISC Allowable Stress Design methodology
- —Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain
Location
Hybrid role based in Cranberry Township, PA (Westinghouse Global Headquarters). On-site 2–3 days per week; 5–10% travel required. No relocation assistance provided.
