Safety SW I&C Engineer PLC Control Logic
About this role
Develop and implement PLC-based control logic for safety-critical I&C (Instrumentation & Control) systems in a NRC-regulated nuclear environment. This entry-level role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career engineers seeking hands-on experience translating system requirements into deterministic control logic while working alongside senior engineers at Westinghouse's nuclear I&C division.
Responsibilities
- —Develop, implement, and test PLC-based control logic for I&C Safety System products
- —Translate system and functional requirements into clear, deterministic control logic
- —Contribute to technical documentation for implemented control logic
- —Collaborate with Independent Validation and Verification (IV&V) and Integrated System Test (IST) teams to support testing and certification
- —Support integration activities and understand how control logic interacts with system hardware and instrumentation
- —Participate in testing, debugging, and resolving technical issues
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field
- —Basic understanding of PLC programming concepts and industrial control systems
- —Experience with any PLC platform
- —Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team
- —Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a safety-focused environment
Desired
- —Exposure to IEC 61131-3 languages (Function Block Diagram, Ladder Logic, or Structured Text)
- —Familiarity with PLC architecture, including I/O processing and control logic execution
- —Coursework, internships, or academic projects involving control systems or automation
- —Familiarity with C and C++, particularly for embedded or real-time environments
- —General understanding of real-time or embedded systems
- —Familiarity with structured or waterfall development processes in regulated environments
