Reactor Core Thermal Hydraulic Design - Principal Engineer
About this role
Lead thermal-hydraulic analyses for nuclear reactor cores under normal and accident conditions at Westinghouse. Develop design bases, assess thermal margins, evaluate safety risks, and support regulatory compliance for US and international customers. Drive advanced reactor designs, fuel development, and industry-leading technical solutions.
Responsibilities
- —Perform standard and non-standard reactor core thermal hydraulic analyses following approved methodologies, procedures, and nuclear safety/quality processes
- —Determine design bases and limits meeting safety/regulatory criteria; measure thermal margins and evaluate risks to plant safety and fuel performance
- —Provide technical leadership on complex redesigns, model development, and emergent issues; interface with customers and internal teams
- —Lead special projects including advanced plant designs, plant chemistry programs, and new fuel product development with novel cladding and materials
- —Consult with technical panels, regulatory bodies, customers, and partners on reactor core thermal hydraulic topics
- —Develop and oversee analysis of complex technical products and processes; lead engineering design and propose solutions to ill-defined problems
- —Coordinate cross-functional technical projects; manage budgets, schedules, project risks, and mitigation strategies
- —Direct code, procedure, and methodology development updates
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline; 7+ years of engineering experience; reactor core thermal hydraulic experience with familiarity in subchannel codes; experience with customers and regulatory personnel; team collaboration; computer simulation and programming skills; Linux experience; Professional Engineer (PE) Certification
