Principal Process Engineer
About this role
Lead process engineering for large complex or multiple medium-sized nuclear projects at Westinghouse. This Principal Process Engineer role requires expertise in process design, regulatory compliance, and team leadership to shape next-generation nuclear solutions. Serve as the project's single point of authority and accountability for the process engineering discipline, leading multi-disciplined teams and developing key design deliverables including Process Flow Diagrams and P&IDs.
Responsibilities
- —Act as the project's single point of authority and accountability for the process engineering discipline
- —Lead a multi-disciplined engineering team reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with the client's responsible engineering team
- —Develop key design deliverables including Process Flow Diagrams and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams/Engineering Flow Diagrams
- —Check and approve calculations including mass, energy and flow balances, pipe and equipment sizing
- —Ensure design deliverables meet high standards and comply with relevant standards, regulations and customer-specific requirements
- —Verify that design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel
- —Produce technically accurate, grammatically correct, properly formatted and professionally presented documentation
- —Prepare and review quality plans for multi or single discipline work packages
- —Ensure work is delivered within defined scope and completed to time and budget
- —Manage resolutions to technical issues and implement necessary change control while addressing commercial impacts
- —Actively participate in the development of more junior engineers
Qualifications
- —At least 8+ years' experience in industry, with at least 3 years at Senior Engineer level
- —Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or associated discipline
- —Chartered Member of the IChemE
- —Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes and directives including Pressure Equipment Regulations, COMAH, COSHH, DSEAR
- —Proven knowledge of theories, principles, practices and techniques of process design
- —Ability to undertake technical tasks and disclose technical limitations
- —Ability to work well with all levels of management, executive leadership and support staff
Desired
- —5+ years in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sector
- —Willingness to mentor more junior engineers and designers

Based at Westlakes, hybrid working arrangement
