Principal Platform Support Engineer
About this role
Principal Platform Support Engineer at Westinghouse providing senior technical leadership for Instrumentation & Control (I&C) and non-safety industrial control system platforms. Lead resolution of complex technical issues, establish platform standards and lifecycle strategies, and serve as primary escalation point for internal engineering teams and customers across nuclear and power generation facilities.
Responsibilities
- —Provide platform architecture guidance and technical consultation for industrial control systems (PLC, SCADA, DCS)
- —Manage control system platform standards, reference architectures, and governance; define technology roadmaps and lifecycle planning in collaboration with vendors and company partners
- —Lead obsolescence management strategy including part changes, vendor notices, and form/fit/function evaluations with risk assessments and mitigation plans
- —Serve as escalation point for internal engineering teams and customers: lead incident evaluation, perform root-cause analysis, and develop solutions and corrective actions
- —Provide clear technical communications including technical advisories, limitations, recommended practices, and release impact notes
- —Represent Westinghouse in vendor and customer technical forums
- —Improve support effectiveness by defining and optimizing technical support processes, tracking recurring issues, and driving systemic fixes
- —Oversee and approve critical platform baseline documentation including standards, reference architectures, known limitations, and support strategies
- —Travel up to 25% to support customer systems and on-site commissioning/startup activities
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline. 7+ years of experience in industrial controls engineering, platform engineering, or related role with ownership of technical outcomes across multiple projects. Deep hands-on experience with PLC, SCADA, or DCS platforms, configuration management, and vendor technical engagement. Demonstrated experience providing senior technical support to company partners and external customers, including leading escalations and managing technical risk. Mastery of engineering principles including requirements development, architecture/design methods, and problem solving in regulated/quality-controlled environments. Experience delivering and sustaining industrial control systems in operational environments, including commissioning/startup support and root-cause analysis. Knowledge of field instrumentation and control devices typical to the power industry, including interface definition and signal conditioning. Ability to interpret and review industry standard drawings (P&IDs, loop diagrams, cabinet drawings, panel layouts).
Location
Hybrid role based in Cranberry, PA; up to 25% travel to support customer systems and site work.
