BS in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering; 7+ years applicable experience in nuclear plant systems design, development, and analysis; broad knowledge of engineering procedures; significant technical leadership experience with design, modeling, and analysis; ability to manage technical teams on complex tasks; willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
About this role
Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer at Westinghouse responsible for design, development, implementation, and analysis of complex nuclear plant mechanical systems and components. Lead technical teams and collaborate with internal/external stakeholders on nuclear power plant systems, including primary and secondary side fluid systems and solid-state machinery. Support licensing, regulatory compliance, and clean energy solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate mechanical systems design efforts for nuclear plant components and technical projects
- Verify, review, and co-author engineering documents and complex licensing submittals; apply Human Performance tools
- Perform system design planning including design reviews, interface management, testing, and NRC licensing support
- Identify and resolve technical issues, risks, and challenges across multiple stakeholder areas
- Lead and mentor technical teams; manage resource allocation, identify gaps
- Collaborate with national laboratories, sub-contractors, suppliers, fabricators, and customers
- Support audits, inspections, regulatory meetings, and proposal development
Preferred qualifications
P.E. Certification in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering (or willingness to obtain); knowledge and experience in primary and secondary side power plant systems; Masters in Engineering.
Location, schedule, and travel
Hybrid, Cranberry Township, PA (Westinghouse headquarters). Several days per week on-site, balance remote. Occasional domestic and international travel required.
