Required qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, or related engineering discipline. 5+ years of experience in concrete mix design, aggregate optimization, testing, durability, and strength/performance modeling. Experience with field testing and inspection. Comprehensive knowledge of concrete technology, ASTM/ACI standards, and data analysis.
About this role
Principal Engineer responsible for concrete mix design, testing, and quality control for nuclear energy infrastructure. Ensure structural integrity and durability of concrete systems in nuclear facilities, troubleshoot field issues, and bridge laboratory testing with real-world application in compliance with nuclear regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Create, evaluate, and approve concrete mixtures based on strength, workability, and durability requirements for nuclear applications
- Work with suppliers and oversee their testing programs (slump, air, strength, maturity) to ensure adherence to ASTM, ACI, and European standards
- Provide field support for concrete placement, curing, and finishing operations at nuclear facilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot on-site concrete issues such as cracking or improper setting
- Monitor project specifications, maintain documentation, and ensure regulatory compliance with nuclear standards
Preferred qualifications
Nuclear industry experience preferred.
Location, schedule, and travel
Hybrid or remote (Cranberry Township PA, Rock Hill SC, or international locations). Office-based with up to 50% travel to vendors, laboratories, and construction sites.
