Principal EC&I Engineer
About this role
Principal EC&I Engineer at Westinghouse leading electrical, control, and instrumentation engineering on nuclear projects. You will serve as single point of authority for EC&I design deliverables, manage multi-disciplined engineering teams, and ensure compliance with nuclear standards and regulations including CDM and relevant UK/international codes.
Responsibilities
- —Act as project single point of authority and accountability for EC&I engineering discipline
- —Lead multi-disciplined engineering team reporting to Project Manager and collaborating with client's engineering team
- —Develop key design deliverables including Block Cable Diagrams, Schematics, Cable Schedules, and General Arrangements
- —Check and approve cable calculations (hand or Amtech) and lighting calculations (Dialux/Relux)
- —Ensure design deliverables meet high standards and comply with relevant standards, regulations, and customer-specific requirements
- —Verify design consultants and sub-contractors deploy suitably qualified and experienced personnel
- —Produce technically accurate, formatted, and professionally presented documentation
- —Prepare and review quality plans for multi or single discipline work packages
- —Manage scope, time, and budget delivery of work packages
- —Manage technical issue resolutions and implement necessary change control with commercial impact assessment
- —Ensure designs comply with CDM regulations and assume designer responsibility under CDM
- —Present EC&I designs to clients and stakeholders at various levels of technical expertise
- —Present technical solutions at design reviews and HAZOPs
- —Produce and check safety-related documents including Hazard Management Strategy and Engineering Substantiation reports
- —Develop estimates, define deliverables, clarify scope, and develop programme logic at bid/tender stages
- —Mentor engineers and designers to enhance skill sets and company capabilities
- —Develop and maintain good working relationships with key client and partner counterparts
Qualifications
- —Minimum 8+ years industry experience with at least 3 years at Senior Engineer level
- —Legally eligible to work in the UK
- —Bachelor's degree or higher
- —Chartered Member of the IET
- —Detailed knowledge of standards, regulations, codes, and directives and their application
- —Proven knowledge of EC&I design theories, principles, practices, and techniques
- —Strong knowledge in production of Technical Files for new products, plant, and equipment
- —Experience of design in accordance with IET 18th edition (BS7671)
- —Professional experience managing small to medium-size teams with demonstrated leadership qualities
Desired
- —5+ years in nuclear industry or other highly regulated sector
- —Ability to mentor junior engineers and designers
- —Ability to identify discipline-related design changes and assess commercial impacts
