Principal Database Engineer - GIC Tools and Applications
About this role
Principal Database Engineer supporting Westinghouse's Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) organization. Design, implement, and maintain scalable database solutions for nuclear I&C design and configuration management systems. Collaborate with software developers, data analysts, and IT teams to integrate databases into broader nuclear systems and support data-driven applications.
Responsibilities
- —Develop, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance database schemas for I&C design and configuration management systems
- —Collaborate with software developers, data analysts, and IT teams to integrate databases into broader systems and support data-driven applications
- —Document database designs, configurations, and standard operating procedures for future reference and compliance
- —Execute assignments independently within project schedule and budgetary requirements
- —Ensure accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or related technical field
- —Minimum 5 years' experience in Database Engineering or similar role
- —Proficiency in SQL and relational databases (MSSQL, Azure, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL)
- —Experience designing and implementing database structures aligned with user requirements and business needs
- —Ability to develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers
- —Ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team including engineering, testing, and manufacturing
Desired
- —Knowledge of industry standards governing software design, development, and documentation
- —Experience with C#, Java, or Python programming languages
- —Knowledge of data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes, and CI/CD for databases
- —Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, data pipelines, and model deployment
