About this role

Seven-month developmental internship at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PWR, three-unit site) providing hands-on experience in nuclear plant operations. Interns rotate with licensed operating crews, participate in refueling outages, complete NRC-mandated qualifications and EPRI training, and develop technical foundation to transition into Auxiliary Operator Trainee role.

Responsibilities

  • Complete Palo Verde Systems Overview course, designated EPRI courses, and associated NRC qualification exams
  • Rotate with operating crews to shadow Auxiliary Operator duties and understand reactor operations, safety systems, and control room procedures
  • Participate in one refueling or maintenance outage, supporting plant activities and learning outage-specific operations
  • Demonstrate ALARA compliance, proper PPE use, pre-job briefing participation, and adherence to Prevent Events safety culture
  • Communicate using phonetic alphabet and three-legged communication protocols required for nuclear operations
  • Support site teams across varying environments while maintaining safety, quality, and adaptability

Preferred qualifications

  • Trade/technical school certificate in Energy & Engineering Technologies
  • Associate's degree in Energy and Engineering Systems/Technologies
  • Bachelor's degree in physical sciences
  • 1+ year hands-on mechanical or electrical experience
  • 3+ years prior Palo Verde site experience
  • Leadership or supervisory experience

Location, schedule, and travel

Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, Wintersburg, Arizona. Seven-month temporary internship with rotating shift schedule. Must obtain NRC security clearance and work within protected area subject to all applicable NRC and site security requirements.
