Nuclear Reactor Operator
About this role
Nuclear Reactor Operator role at Constellation Energy, the nation's largest producer of clean energy. You will operate nuclear power stations safely and efficiently in accordance with NRC-licensed procedures and technical specifications. This position includes an Initial License Training (ILT) program leading to NRC Reactor Operator licensure, with classroom instruction, study, exams, and field training provided by the company.
Responsibilities
- —Operate the nuclear power plant in accordance with approved procedures and Technical Specifications Limiting Conditions for Operation
- —Monitor reactor and assigned control room panels to ensure operation remains within established parameters
- —Notify the Unit Supervisor of unusual or unexpected conditions
- —Maintain awareness of activities and work impacting the unit; assist other Reactor Operators as needed
- —Maintain shift narrative logs documenting all significant unit activities
- —Perform clearance activities and electrical switching from the Control Room
- —Coordinate liquid radwaste releases and transfers with Reactor Operators and Radwaste Equipment Operators
- —Complete NRC Reactor Operator licensing requirements including classroom lessons, study, exams, and field training
- —Pass company and NRC-administered licensing exams
- —Serve on the Emergency Response Organization and participate in fire brigade qualifications
- —Support on-call rotating shift coverage including holidays and weekends
Qualifications
- —High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- —Pass the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) and Basic Math and Science Test (BMST) pre-employment assessments
- —Pass NRC-required physical examination for licensed operators, including ability to wear a respirator and 20-pound oxygen tank
- —Obtain unescorted access authorization at Constellation nuclear facilities
- —Meet one of the following experience pathways: (1) 6 months as a qualified non-licensed operator at Constellation (all power block and safety system duties) plus 18 months total power plant experience; (2) 12 months as qualified non-licensed operator at comparable nuclear facility or 18 months at non-comparable nuclear facility plus 18 months total power plant experience; (3) 6 months as an active NRC-licensed RO at comparable facility or 12 months at non-comparable commercial power reactor plus 18 months total power plant experience; (4) 18 months in Navy Reactor program (Reactor Operator, Engineering Officer of the Watch, or equivalent); or (5) 27 months in preoperational, startup, operational, design, construction, technical support, maintenance, or training roles at petrochemical, process, or steam propulsion plants
Location
On-site at Constellation nuclear power station; on-call rotating shifts including holidays and weekends; must be able to wear respirator and 20-pound oxygen tank for fire brigade duties.
