About this role
Operate a nuclear-powered electric generating unit at the Callaway Energy Center in mid-Missouri under rotating or straight shift schedules. This role requires an NRC Reactor Operator's License and responsibility for all aspects of reactor-turbine-generator unit control, including surveillance testing, auxiliary equipment operation, and emergency response.
Responsibilities
- —Operate a reactor-turbine-generator unit in accordance with prescribed procedures or as directed
- —Participate in training programs to develop skills and knowledge needed to achieve and maintain an NRC Reactor Operator's License
- —Participate in training programs as an aide to the instructor to retain job proficiency and maintain an active license
- —Direct and/or execute routine and special surveillance tests on plant equipment, working independently or with other plant personnel
- —Direct the activities of Operations Technicians and Operations Technician Assistants in routine and special activities
- —Direct and/or assist in the operation of auxiliary equipment related to fuel handling, waste management, water treatment, plant operation, and sewage treatment
- —Serve in the Radiation Protection Program or assist in other plant activities as needed
- —Communicate verbally or in writing with authorized inspectors, plant management representatives, and NRC representatives on plant activities
- —Develop and maintain complete understanding of the plant emergency program and security system
- —React appropriately in protection of the public in case of an operational emergency
- —Properly drive a motor vehicle when directed or required to perform duties
Qualifications
- —High school diploma or passed high school equivalency examination
- —Total power plant experience greater than 18 months at a nuclear or military reactor facility, OR greater than 27 months at a non-nuclear facility
- —One of the following: at least 6 months experience as a qualified non-licensed operator at Callaway; OR at least 12 months at a comparable nuclear facility (18 months non-comparable); OR at least 6 months as an active licensed reactor operator at comparable facility (12 months non-comparable); OR at least 18 months equivalent military reactor experience; OR 27 months power plant experience at non-nuclear facility
- —Good eyesight, good reflexes, good hearing, and no color deficiency in vision
- —Successfully complete full medical examination including psychiatric/physician evaluation to confirm no signs of aberrant behavior or emotional instability
