Plant Control Operator In Training (PCOIT) - Reactor Operator
About this role
Plant Control Operator In Training (PCOIT) role at Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, a dual-unit Boiling Water Reactor site near Berwick, Pennsylvania. You'll receive structured nuclear training and operational experience to prepare for your NRC Reactor Operator License. Successful trainees will operate nuclear systems, safety systems, turbine-generator systems, and plant electrical distribution systems under supervision.
Responsibilities
- —Participate in classroom lectures, examinations, and training evolutions during the structured training program
- —Operate equipment and systems safely in accordance with approved procedures and conduct required tests
- —Observe reactor and station equipment condition and make or direct adjustments as required
- —Shut down the reactor when safety is in jeopardy or operating parameters challenge protection system set points
- —Manually initiate Engineering Safety Features during transient and accident conditions if automatic operation fails
- —Perform duties as System Operating Representative for the Energy Control Process, determining blocking needs and evaluating effects
- —Prepare clearances for maintenance and outages on plant equipment
- —Transmit and receive work requests for plant equipment outages and coordinate with System Operator
- —Start, regulate, and stop remote-controlled equipment while observing operation via indicating and recording devices
- —Operate station equipment in remote-manual mode when automatic control is unavailable
- —Synchronize generators and lines; control station generating equipment and power supply to auxiliaries and station buses
- —Perform refueling and fuel handling activities including fuel bundle movement, channel inspection, and inventories
- —Prepare and direct alignment of leak rate, hydrostatic, and other test procedures; function as evolution coordinator
- —Review procedures, initiate and process procedure changes, create new procedures, and conduct procedure walk-downs
- —Maintain thorough knowledge of Plans, Procedures, Radiological Health and Safety Programs, Industrial Safety Programs, and Security Procedures
- —Direct work of non-supervisory employees as required
Qualifications
- —High school diploma or equivalent
- —At least 6 months of experience performing plant operational duties as a qualified non-licensed operator at Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, OR
- —At least 12 months of experience as a qualified non-licensed operator at a comparable (BWR/PWR) facility, OR
- —At least 18 months of experience as a qualified non-licensed operator at a noncomparable commercial power reactor facility, OR
- —At least 6 months of experience as an active-licensed reactor operator at a comparable (BWR/PWR) facility, OR
- —At least 12 months of experience as an active-licensed reactor operator at a noncomparable commercial power reactor facility, OR
- —At least 18 months of experience in a position equivalent to reactor operator at a military reactor (qualified to manipulate or direct manipulation of control rods), OR
- —At least 27 months of experience at a non-nuclear facility
- —Experience in petrochemical, similar process plants, or steam propulsion plant design, construction, technical support, operation, maintenance, or training instruction may be substituted for applicable power plant experience
