Nuclear Reactor Operator
About this role
Constellation is hiring Nuclear Reactor Operators for Peach Bottom Nuclear Station (a two-unit pressurized water reactor facility in Delta, PA). You'll operate the reactor safely and efficiently, monitor control room systems, manage Technical Specification compliance, and coordinate with operations and radwaste teams. The role includes Initial License Training leading to NRC Reactor Operator licensure, with rotating shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
- —Operate the nuclear power plant in accordance with approved procedures and Technical Specifications to ensure safe, conservative, and efficient reactor operation
- —Monitor reactor operations and ensure they remain within established parameters; monitor all assigned control room panels and notify the Unit Supervisor of unusual or unexpected conditions
- —Maintain cognizance of activities and work impacting the unit; maintain a narrative log of activities occurring on the assigned unit during the shift
- —Perform clearance activities and electrical switching from the Control Room
- —Coordinate liquid radwaste releases and transfers with Reactor Operators and Radwaste Equipment Operators
- —Complete Initial License Training including classroom lessons, study, exams, and field time to attain RO License; pass NRC-issued exams
- —Serve on the Emergency Response Organization and maintain fire brigade member qualifications as needed
- —Be available for on-call rotating shifts including holidays and weekends
Qualifications
- —High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- —Successfully pass the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) and Basic Math and Science Test (BMST) pre-employment tests
- —Pass NRC-required physical examination for licensed operators; ability to wear a respirator and carry 20-pound oxygen tank (fire brigade requirements)
- —Obtain unescorted access to Constellation's nuclear power plants
- —Meet one of the following experience requirements: (1) 6 months performing plant operational duties as a non-licensed operator at Peach Bottom with 18 months total power plant experience; (2) 12 months at a comparable nuclear facility or 18 months at a non-comparable facility (18 months total power plant experience); (3) 6 months as an active licensed reactor operator at a comparable facility or 12 months at a non-comparable facility (18 months total power plant experience); (4) 18 months in equivalent position at a military Navy Reactor; or (5) 27 months in non-nuclear power production plant during preoperational, startup, testing or operational activities, or in plant design, construction, technical support, operation, maintenance, or training for petrochemical, similar process plants, or steam propulsion plants
Location
Peach Bottom Nuclear Station, Delta, PA. Onsite position with rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. On-call availability required. Starting rate: $69.80/hour.
