Mechanical Valve Engineer
About this role
Advanced technical engineering role at Constellation's Byron nuclear station focused on mechanical valve systems and engineering analysis. You will provide expert technical support for valve-related engineering projects, troubleshoot complex mechanical systems, and ensure compliance with nuclear industry codes and NRC regulations. Two career tracks available: Mid-level ($92,700–$114,000) or Senior level ($122,400–$154,000).
Responsibilities
- —Provide in-depth technical expertise to develop, manage and implement engineering analysis, activities and programs
- —Identify and resolve equipment and system problems through direct technical consultation and root cause analysis
- —Manage engineering issues from initiation through resolution, ensuring proper configuration management
- —Apply standard design criteria, practices, procedures and nuclear codes (ASME, ANSI standards) in preparation of engineering plans and specifications
- —Conduct independent research, reviews, studies, and analyses in support of technical projects
- —Recommend equipment, new concepts and techniques to improve valve performance, reduce costs, correct design flaws, or ensure regulatory compliance
- —Support emergency response, departmental coverage, and refueling outage activities as directed
Qualifications
- —B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- —Minimum 2 years nuclear experience or related engineering experience (Mid-level); minimum 5 years (Senior level)
- —Meet requirements outlined in ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014 Standard for Nuclear Power Plant Personnel
- —Maintain minimum access requirements or unescorted access as applicable
- —Favorable medical examination and testing in accordance with position duties
Desired
- —Hands-on background with valves, AOVs (air operated valves), MOVs (motor operated valves), or other active mechanical components
- —Professional Engineer (PE) Registration or eligibility
- —Advanced technical degree (M.S. Engineering) or related graduate coursework
Location
Byron Clean Energy facility, Byron, Illinois. Position includes on-call emergency response duties and outage support requirements.
