About this role
Staff, Senior, or Principal-level Mechanical Engineer at Xcel Energy focused on thermal power generation, including nuclear cycles. Lead advanced engineering projects, drive innovation in complex systems, serve as technical SME, and mentor junior engineers while influencing internal and external stakeholder relationships.
Responsibilities
- —Apply extensive technical expertise to develop procedures, codes, and standards for complex problem areas through unconventional or innovative approaches
- —Conceive and conduct research to support technical documentation and development of new principles and concepts
- —Lead multiple critical and complex projects including research, design, equipment specification & selection, installation, start-up, commissioning, and evaluation
- —Serve as internal technical SME and organization spokesperson on advanced projects and programs
- —Advise management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications
- —Manage bid/evaluation processes including preparation of bid documents, technical evaluations, and selection recommendations
- —Provide technical leadership and direction for teams of engineers, technicians, and other professionals
- —Form mentoring relationships with less experienced engineers for knowledge transfer and technical skill development
- —Oversee processes related to budgeting, estimating, forecasting, and work order management for engineering projects
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in engineering from ABET-accredited program (mechanical or chemical engineering preferred)
- —For Staff Engineer: 2+ years relevant engineering experience with demonstrated broad knowledge in specialty area
- —For Senior Engineer: 5+ years relevant engineering experience with EIT/FE certification, or 7+ years without EIT/FE
- —For Principal Engineer: 9+ years relevant engineering experience with PE registration, or 15+ years without PE
- —Ability to demonstrate unique technical skills and core competencies established and documented by the organization
Desired
- —EIT/FE (Engineer in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering) certification
- —PE (Professional Engineer) registration
- —Demonstrated history of design engineering or operations/performance engineering of thermal power generation technology including nuclear cycles, gas turbines, steam turbines & boilers, and reciprocating engines
- —Experience in power project development
