Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field from an ABET-accredited college or university
- Ability to obtain and maintain qualifications for unescorted access to Xcel Energy's nuclear power plants
- For Engineer I: 0–2 years of experience
- For Engineer II: 2 years of experience
- For Engineer: 6 years of engineering experience in nuclear generating plant operations and/or maintenance (or equivalent electrical power plant, industrial, naval, or OEM experience)
- For Sr. Engineer: 8+ years of engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in nuclear generating plants and at least one engineering discipline area
About this role
Mechanical engineering role at Xcel Energy's Monticello Nuclear Generating Station (PWR). Support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations through design basis documentation, plant modifications, corrective action resolution, and engineering analyses. Multiple experience levels available: Engineer I/II (0–2 years), Engineer (6 years), or Sr. Engineer (8+ years).
Responsibilities
- Perform design, systems, program, plant component, and nuclear engineering activities in support of nuclear generation power plant operations
- Develop plant modifications, calculations, and engineering evaluations
- Determine operability and maintain design basis documents
- Resolve Corrective Action Issues
- Review existing and new design, program, plant, procedure, and contract documents
- Conduct engineering analyses and assess adverse conditions
- Develop or provide input to work schedules
- Prepare project estimates and analyze reliability and system deficiencies
- Use work management tools to support site and fleet goals
- Participate in area teams, planning, engineering, and operational study teams or committees
- Attend departmental and plant meetings and industry/fleet activities
Preferred qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Advanced degree in engineering or related technical field
Location, schedule, and travel
Monticello, MN. May be required to assume emergency response duties and live within 60 or 90 minutes from the nuclear generation station. Required to maintain nuclear fitness for duty during off-hours if on call or designated emergency response duty.
