Required qualifications
BS in Mechanical Engineering (3.0+ GPA) or equivalent in Nuclear, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering; general knowledge of engineering fundamentals and uncertainty treatments; 1+ years experience with MathCad, MATLAB, VBA, and/or Python; familiarity with testing and test analysis; knowledge of systems and component design including fluid systems, HVAC systems, and instrumentation/control interfaces; FE/EIT certification or commitment to obtain PE license; willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
About this role
Mechanical Engineer supporting design, development, and analysis of thermal, hydraulic, and piping systems for nuclear steam supply systems and balance of plant equipment across advanced reactors, small modular reactors, and legacy nuclear power plants.
Responsibilities
- Perform thermal, thermal/hydraulic, and piping network engineering design and analysis for Nuclear Steam Supply Systems and Balance of Plant equipment
- Develop sizing requirements for blowers, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, HVAC, and other plant equipment
- Evaluate advanced plant design documentation and implement updates to current records
- Support senior engineers in design and analysis efforts; identify problems and propose solutions
- Participate in team meetings, vendor meetings, regulator interactions, and customer meetings
- Support outage shift work at nuclear power plants and Westinghouse Outage Control Center (several weeks per year)
- Gain qualifications to independently author thermal-hydraulic and systems analyses
Location, schedule, and travel
Hybrid (Cranberry Woods Headquarters, Pennsylvania); several days per week on-site, remainder remote; occasional domestic and international travel; several weeks per year outage shift work at operating nuclear power plants.
