About this role
Maintenance Operator at Entergy's GTX generating station performing mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance on turbine-generator-boiler systems and auxiliary equipment. Multiple advancement levels available (MO, MO 1-4, JMO, MO Tech) based on qualifications and experience. Shift-based role including routine and emergency operations.
Responsibilities
- —Operate, place in service, and remove turbogenerator and boiler systems and related auxiliary equipment (fuel facilities, valves, cooling towers, heat exchangers, piping systems)
- —Perform inspection, repair, installation, testing, adjustment and calibration of meters, instruments, and automatic combustion control equipment
- —Install and maintain mechanical measuring devices and control equipment such as pressure gauges, thermometers, thermocouples, and regulating devices
- —Install and maintain electrical circuits, lighting fixtures, motors and other electrical auxiliaries in generating stations and substations
- —Install and maintain mechanical equipment including piping layouts, valves, fuel pumps, centrifugal pumps, steam traps, and heat exchange apparatus
- —Check functioning of governors and controls; perform test work on boilers, turbines, pumps, condensers, and related equipment
- —Clean and inspect motors, check clearances and insulation resistance, change oil as required
- —Check bearing temperatures and equipment for proper operation; test electrical circuits for insulation resistance
- —Perform operations with hand, bench, power tools and machine tools (drill presses, threading machines, band saws)
- —Check and adjust running clearances on main turbine; analyze flue gas samples
- —Diagnose and correct minor electrical and mechanical troubles
- —Maintain proper combustion; perform routine test and inspections of storage batteries
- —Operate control room under routine and emergency conditions
- —Prepare records and reports; maintain housekeeping standards
- —Perform first aid and operate firefighting equipment as required
Qualifications
- —Minimum age 18 (MO level) or 21-22 (JMO/MO Tech level)
- —For MO level: no prior experience required
- —For JMO/MO Tech: minimum 3 years experience as maintenance operator or equivalent power plant operation and maintenance experience
- —Knowledge of elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulating devices used in generating plants
- —Knowledge of elementary principles of electricity, magnetism, and electric circuits
- —Proficiency with tools and equipment ordinarily used in power plants
- —Ability to understand and perform operations of average complexity with standard procedures available
- —Working knowledge of steam boilers, turbo-generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, and auxiliary equipment
- —Ability to sketch from memory a flow diagram of main piping systems
- —Working knowledge of rotating electrical equipment, switches, transformers, instruments, and controls
- —Knowledge of company safety rules
- —Ability to administer approved resuscitation methods and render practical first aid
- —Knowledge of location and operation of all firefighting equipment
