Intern Automation Engineer
About this role
Engineering internship at Westinghouse designing and implementing a communication gateway between a Contronic-E system and Schneider Electric M580 PLC for nuclear industrial applications. Hands-on experience in highly regulated nuclear environments with focus on PLC programming, industrial IT, and nuclear qualification documentation (C2 compliance).
Responsibilities
- —Analyze functional requirements and interfaces between Contronic-E system and Schneider M580 PLC
- —Define communication architecture and contribute to functional and technical specifications
- —Develop and prototype communication gateway using PLC programming and industrial IT tools
- —Perform functional testing, analyze results, and implement technical adjustments
- —Apply nuclear industry documentation standards and qualification requirements for C2 compliance
- —Define and execute nuclear qualification tests with full traceability of technical decisions and test results
- —Prepare technical documentation including specifications, reports, and user guides aligned with nuclear standards
- —Present results and recommendations to project stakeholders
Qualifications
Final-year engineering student or MSc equivalent with specialization in automation, industrial IT, control systems, or related field. Basic knowledge of industrial automation, communication systems, or PLC programming required. Strong technical writing and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Desired
Experience with Contronic-E or Schneider Electric systems. Knowledge of nuclear industry documentation standards and testing/diagnostic tools. Interest in quality assurance, validation, and industrial processes.
Location
Metz, France. Full-time internship (35 hours/week) for approximately 24 weeks, onsite.
