I&C Engineer (nuclear)
About this role
I&C Principal Engineer leading technical evaluation, design, and implementation of nuclear plant uprate initiatives at Westinghouse. Manage feasibility studies, system evaluations, and detailed design to safely increase generation capacity. Requires 8+ years of nuclear plant I&C experience, expertise in instrumentation and control systems, power system analysis (ETAP), and regulatory compliance (NRC, FERC, NERC, IEEE).
Responsibilities
- —Lead engineering efforts for plant uprate projects, including feasibility studies, system evaluations, and detailed design
- —Serve as primary technical authority on uprate strategies, methodologies, and system impacts
- —Perform and review instrumentation calculations for transmitter sizing, measurement range determination, and total loop uncertainty under uprated conditions
- —Lead technical reviews of transmitter applications and installations, ensuring proper selection of sensing technologies and compliance with design codes
- —Evaluate and validate flow measurement calculations including differential pressure sizing and beta ratio selection
- —Review and approve instrument setpoints and scaling changes required for uprate operation
- —Support control system impact evaluations including instrument loop response, stability, and control logic interactions
- —Provide oversight for instrumentation documentation including data sheets, loop diagrams, and calibration procedures
- —Develop and review engineering calculations, analyses, and design modifications
- —Evaluate plant systems across disciplines and identify required upgrades for uprate implementation
- —Ensure compliance with NRC, FERC, NERC, and IEEE regulatory frameworks
- —Support licensing submittals and regulatory interactions
- —Identify risks related to uprate and system modifications
- —Provide technical guidance and mentorship across electrical and instrumentation engineering disciplines
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline
- —Minimum 8–15 years of relevant experience in nuclear power generation or heavy industry
- —Demonstrated experience with power system analysis and ETAP modeling
- —Expertise in instrumentation calculations and transmitter applications
- —Knowledge of plant electrical and I&C systems
- —Technical leadership experience on complex engineering projects
- —US Citizen or permanent resident located in the United States
Desired
- —PE license or ability to obtain
- —Experience with plant uprates or major capacity increases (EPU, MUR, or similar)
- —Expertise in instrument uncertainty, setpoint methodologies, and flow measurement
- —Nuclear industry uprate experience
- —Familiarity with control systems and process automation platforms
