Engineer II - Mechanical
About this role
Engineer II - Mechanical role at Westinghouse supporting nuclear reactor design and qualification. Perform structural analyses and design work on primary pressure boundary components for operating reactors and AP1000 systems using advanced simulation tools and industry codes (ASME, NRC, DOE standards).
Responsibilities
- —Perform design and analyses for repair, modification, and qualification of primary pressure boundary components in Westinghouse nuclear reactors
- —Conduct finite element simulations (Ansys), closed-form calculations, and internal code analyses to qualify component designs
- —Integrate subsystems with component, system, and manufacturing leads; resolve emergent design issues
- —Develop project schedules collaboratively with project managers and subsystem/component leads
- —Identify and define technical risks and challenges; direct efforts toward resolution
- —Apply industry, regulatory, NRC/DOE/ASME codes, standards, and criteria in design activities
- —Provide technical guidance and collaborate with national laboratories, subcontractors, suppliers, fabricators, and customers
- —Support plant refueling outages on-site and remotely, including 12-hour shifts and overnight work
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering; 3+ years of experience in component structural analysis or thermo-hydraulics
Desired
Mechanical engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or Aerospace Engineering degree
Location
Hybrid schedule at Cranberry Township, PA; supports on-site and remote refueling outages with extended shifts including overnight work
