Required qualifications
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Structural Engineering (relevant experience acceptable for alternate disciplines). Proficiency in ANSYS Workbench required; familiarity with ANSYS Mechanical (APDL) required.
About this role
Engineer I in Westinghouse's Structural Design & Analysis Group performing thermal and structural finite element analysis (FEA) on reactor components. Design and qualify nuclear reactor components using ASYS-based modeling and ASME Code compliance. Reports to Director of Reactor Component Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Execute design and analysis plans from preliminary through final design phases, translating performance and structural requirements into ASME Code-compliant engineering solutions using lessons learned and best practices
- Qualify component designs using ANSYS-based thermal and structural FEA, closed-form analytical methods, and Westinghouse internal engineering codes
- Collaborate with systems, manufacturing, and component teams to ensure subsystem integration and resolve design and production issues
- Deliver high-quality engineering work meeting safety, quality, and schedule expectations
