Electrical Engineer I/II and Sr.
About this role
Electrical engineer position at Xcel Energy supporting safe, reliable, and efficient operations of nuclear generation power plants. Role involves designing plant modifications, performing engineering evaluations, maintaining design basis documents, and resolving corrective action issues. Multiple career levels available (Engineer I/II, Engineer, Senior Engineer) with increasing responsibility for technical leadership and oversight.
Responsibilities
- —Lead or develop plant modifications and plant program documents
- —Perform systems troubleshooting of nuclear power plant systems and complex calculations
- —Conduct engineering evaluations and operability determinations
- —Maintain design basis documents and resolve Corrective Action issues
- —Monitor and evaluate preventative maintenance to improve equipment reliability
- —Provide technical leadership for other engineers and designers (Engineer and Senior Engineer levels)
- —Act as technical lead for quality improvement initiatives
- —Develop schedules and utilize work management tools for engineering activities
- —Support site and fleet goals at subject matter expert level
- —Attend department and plant meetings and represent the company at industry events
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field from ABET-accredited college/university
- —Engineer I: 0–2 years of experience
- —Engineer II: 2+ years of experience
- —Engineer: 6+ years of engineering experience with satisfactory performance in nuclear generating plant operations and/or maintenance (or equivalent power plant experience in industrial, naval, or OEM)
- —Senior Engineer: 8+ years of engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in nuclear generating plants and at least one engineering discipline area
- —Ability to obtain and maintain qualifications for unescorted access to nuclear power plants
- —May be required to assume emergency response duties and live within 30–60 minutes of nuclear generation station
- —Required to maintain nuclear fitness-for-duty compliance during off hours if on call or designated for emergency response duty
Desired
- —Professional Engineer (PE) license
- —Advanced degree in engineering or related technical field
Location
Xcel Energy nuclear generation station; on-call/emergency response duties may require residence within 30–60 minutes of site and fitness-for-duty compliance during off hours.
