Valve Technician
About this role
Short-term contract role installing, repairing, and calibrating valves and control devices at nuclear facilities. Westinghouse assignment with 100% travel on 4–6 week rotations. Requires 5+ years of hands-on valve maintenance in nuclear or industrial settings and ability to work 40–72 hours per week including shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
- —Install, repair, replace, and conduct post-maintenance functional testing, diagnostics, and calibration of valves and control devices
- —Test and calibrate instrumentation; inspect and troubleshoot valve systems using gauges and tools
- —Perform leak testing, valve adjustments, and alignment checks
- —Support field troubleshooting, emergency repairs, and continuous improvement initiatives
- —Complete work orders with accurate documentation and daily field activity logs
- —Comply with lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, confined space entry protocols, and nuclear quality/radiological/human performance standards
- —Use appropriate PPE (respirators, fall protection, safety glasses, hard hats) and work in high-temperature areas and elevated heights
- —Report to On-Site Manager
Qualifications
- —High school diploma or equivalent
- —5+ years hands-on experience in valve maintenance, calibration, and testing in nuclear or industrial environments
- —Mechanical and electrical competency; ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
- —Proficiency with hand tools, electrical instruments, and diagnostic tools
- —Knowledge of OSHA and nuclear safety requirements
- —Pass pre-employment screening (practical/written assessments, medical, psychological, background, substance abuse)
Desired
- —U.S. Navy nuclear background or equivalent reactor maintenance/operations training
- —Vocational, technical training, or EPRI qualifications
Location
100% travel; 4–6 week short-term contract assignments; 40–72 hours per week. Work includes climbing, lifting up to 100 lbs, prolonged standing, bending, confined spaces, high-temperature areas, elevated heights. Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and holidays required.
