Travel I&E Tech I, II, III - Nuclear
About this role
Duke Energy seeks Traveling Instrumentation & Controls Technicians (Level I, II, or III) to maintain and repair electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic instrumentation and control systems across nuclear and fossil power plant facilities throughout the Carolinas. This role requires unescorted nuclear access, significant travel based from McGuire Office Complex (Huntersville, NC), and independent troubleshooting of I&C systems critical to safe plant operations.
Responsibilities
- —Perform calibration, maintenance, and repair of electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic instrumentation and control systems in accordance with nuclear safety standards
- —Execute assigned maintenance activities independently or within team settings; read and interpret I&C/electrical control drawings, work orders, and technical plans
- —Troubleshoot and diagnose instrumentation failures; communicate progress and technical issues with maintenance personnel at all levels
- —Develop proficiency with calibration equipment, specialty tooling, and company software (Maximo, CAS, Tags Pro, eSOMs, Nantel)
- —Maintain unescorted nuclear access and comply with all security requirements; follow LOTO procedures and human performance tools
- —Maintain housekeeping standards and report incidents; assist in controlling quality and productivity of maintenance work
Qualifications
- —High school diploma or equivalent
- —Minimum one year relevant work experience in power plant or industrial instrumentation/maintenance
- —Valid driver's license and ability to obtain/maintain unescorted nuclear access
- —Successfully complete EEI's Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS)
- —Physical ability to work within 275-pound weight restriction; ability to work in extreme weather, high temperatures, high pressures, and at heights
Desired
- —One year closely related experience on electronic equipment or power plant systems
- —Experience troubleshooting electrical/instrumentation equipment and reading electrical diagrams, schematics, and one-line drawings
- —Experience with electrical/instrumentation test equipment and LOTO procedures
- —Current unescorted nuclear access or security clearance
- —Experience with generator breaker maintenance or fossil/nuclear power plant equipment
- —Knowledge of industrial electronic/electrical maintenance practices
- —Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
- —Strong diagnostic, analytical, and report writing skills
Location
Based in Huntersville, NC (McGuire Office Complex); 100% travel required throughout the Carolinas to various nuclear and fossil power stations. Work environments include extreme weather, high temperatures, high pressures, and elevated work areas. Must live within reasonable daily commute distance to assigned work locations.
