Civil/Structural Design Engineer III or Senior Engineer – Harris Nuclear Plant
About this role
Civil/Structural Design Engineer III or Senior Engineer at Duke Energy's Harris Nuclear Plant. Lead the design authority function for capital engineering changes, managing scope, technical basis, and installation requirements for structural modifications, pipe stress analysis, equipment qualification, and weld design across nuclear facilities.
Responsibilities
- —Develop scope, technical basis, installation and testing requirements for engineering design changes including pipe hanger design, structural analysis, pipe stress analysis, soil and steel/concrete structure evaluations, seismic equipment qualification, and weld design
- —Research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, and present recommendations to resolve technical challenges
- —Provide ongoing support for assigned engineering design changes through work order reviews, corrective action program assignments, and field installation support
- —Develop or revise design specifications and technical requirements documents to support engineering design changes
- —Develop or revise complex engineering calculations impacted by engineering design changes
- —Develop safety screens and evaluations that support engineering design changes
- —Revise site design basis documents, design drawings, and regulatory documents impacted by engineering design changes
Qualifications
- —Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program (or Master's degree in engineering may substitute)
- —4–6 years of engineering experience (for Civil/Structural Design Engineer III level) or minimum 6 years of engineering experience (for Senior level)
- —For Senior level: 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer acceptable in lieu of 6 years experience
- —Ability to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance
- —Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship
Desired
- —Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- —State registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
- —Working level knowledge of pipe stress analysis, structural analysis software (GTSTRUDL or equivalent), pipe hanger design, seismic equipment qualification, and weld design
- —Proficiency with AISC, ACI, and AWS codes
- —Soils and concrete experience for design evaluations and field issues
- —Experience with nuclear industry standard design process
- —Utility industry experience
Location
Harris Nuclear Plant. Office environment with occasional plant work for system walkdowns and field support. 5–15% travel; occasional overnight travel required. May require Emergency Response Organization (ERO) on-call duty rotation. Personal protective equipment required. Additional hours expected as needed.
