Tool Room Technician
About this role
Tool Room Technician supporting nuclear operations at Westinghouse's South Carolina facility. Manage tool inventory, equipment distribution, safety inspections, chemical management, and maintain forklift/equipment qualifications in a 24/7 operational environment.
Responsibilities
Provide oversight of tool room inventory, ordering, restocking, and distribution. Operate motorized pallet jacks, forklifts (stand-up and sit-down), and standard pallet jacks to move materials. Manage chemical inventory, print SDS labels, perform quarterly chemical inspections, and remove expired/unapproved chemicals. Issue, reconcile, and order filler materials and welding consumables; create labels and vacuum seal stick rods. Issue, inspect, and maintain respirators, cartridges, adapters, fall protection equipment, and M&TE (measuring and test equipment). Bump and calibrate gas monitors (4-gas, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen, ammonia) and coordinate offsite calibration for hydrazine monitors. Perform daily forklift and motorized pallet jack inspections prior to use. Perform daily walkdowns of tool rooms and storage areas for housekeeping and safety concerns. Perform annual and pre-outage fall protection inspections and remove damaged equipment from service. Perform monthly housekeeping inspections and annual rigging storage area inspections. Perform quarterly continuity testing and inspections on electrically powered tools per color code chart. Manage tool tracking in Indysoft and Codeman systems; enter tools into inventory. Stock PPE, hand tools, power tools, heat stress meters, and electrical worker first aid kits. Support 24/7 coverage during outages and emergent work via on-call duty rotation. Perform pre-job briefs, shift turnover duties, and field observations; provide coaching and mentoring to assigned personnel. Model safety-conscious work environment and technical skill standards.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Ability to be forklift qualified and maintain qualifications (various forklifts, stand and reach, motorized pallet jack). Eligible for Radiation Worker Training (RWT) and unescorted nuclear facility access. Capability to lift 50 lbs; heavy lifting required from time to time. Basic computer skills. Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to understand and follow oral and written communications, technical requirements, procedures, and directives at a nuclear power plant. Commitment to personal safety and industrial safety. Knowledge of general tools and their functions. Knowledge of Fusion, eWE, and CAS systems.
Location
York, South Carolina; on-site role with 24/7 outage support coverage and on-call duty rotation (Monday-Sunday); emergent work weekends and nights as needed.
