Temporary Fire Protection Operator - Nuclear (Temporary Outage)
About this role
Temporary fire protection operator role supporting a nuclear facility outage at PSEG's Artificial Island plant. Operate, inspect, test, and maintain fire protection systems and equipment including pumps, suppression systems, alarms, and auxiliary equipment during the scheduled outage period.
Responsibilities
- —Operate, inspect, test, and adjust all plant fire protection systems and equipment
- —Remove, repair, and install fire protection components (hoses, extinguishers, sprinklers, isolation valves, fire doors, flow switches, tamper switches, fusible links, level and pressure switches, emergency lighting)
- —Operate and test fire hydrants, deluge systems, foam systems, Cardox and Halon suppression systems, alarm systems, breathing apparatus, and fire pumps
- —Perform confined space surveys to determine oxygen levels and potential explosive gas atmospheres
- —Perform routine inspections of equipment and assigned areas; record data as required
- —Maintain cleanliness of equipment and assigned areas; move and handle fire protection materials and supplies
- —Assist other departments and perform first aid functions as needed
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED; meet company General Requirements per Union handbook; ability to follow detailed instructions and carry out complex assignments; aptitude for mechanical and technical work; keen observation and oral/written communication skills; valid driver's license with safe driving history; at least 6 months outside/industrial work experience within last 3 years OR college/technical school graduation; valid Real ID or approved identification; ability to obtain and maintain Nuclear Plant Unescorted Access (includes background investigation, physical exam, psychological assessment, drug/alcohol testing, nuclear plant access training); US citizenship or lawful permanent residency meeting 10 CFR 810 requirements.
Location
Onsite daily at PSEG Artificial Island nuclear facility (Salem/Hope Creek site, New Jersey); temporary outage position; may require driving to company locations and off-site assignments.
