About this role

Join Dominion Energy's System Protection Development Program as a T1/T2 technician responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting protective relaying schemes, communication systems, SCADA components, and operational technology systems at nuclear and fossil generation facilities. This structured role builds foundational skills in system protection with progression toward greater independence and complexity, including support during nuclear outages.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside senior team members to gain practical experience on construction projects and maintenance activities
  • Prepare and participate in Pre-Job Briefs to identify hazards and critical tasks
  • Assist with installation and commissioning of protection and control equipment, including verification of functionality and communication of protection assets
  • Participate in acceptance testing of voltage and current sensing devices and confirm primary equipment operates per manufacturer specifications
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain protective relays and associated protection components within defined maintenance intervals to meet regulatory requirements
  • Participate in electromechanical and microprocessor relay repair and troubleshooting
  • Verify engineering protective relay setpoints and logic equations
  • Support installation of network-based or technology-based protection schemes
  • Properly apply electrical clearance boundary (tagout) and Human Performance work zone strategies per Dominion Energy standards
  • Complete compliance paperwork and supporting documentation
  • Apply Cyber Security controls per company standards
  • Support on-site ET organization during nuclear outages

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree, Advanced Post Secondary diploma, or equivalent military experience
  • For T1: 0–1 years of relevant experience with basic understanding of substation equipment and protection system components
  • For T2: 1–2 years of directly related experience and successful completion of System Protection development program steps 1 & 2 or equivalent
  • Knowledge of testing electromechanical and microprocessor-based relay technology, including logic diagrams and IEEE device numbers
  • Ability to use hand-held multimeters, navigate control drawings/schematics/equipment nameplates, and recognize electrical hazards
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; computer proficiency
  • Self-motivated and organized
  • US military service members and veterans with ranks E3–E5, W1–W2, or O1–O3 with appropriate equivalent education and experience

Desired

  • Knowledge of Dominion Energy commissioning practices, maintenance work practices, acceptance testing criteria, and communications systems
  • Preferred education disciplines: Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Electronics Technology, Instrumentation Technology, or Mechatronic Technology
  • For T2: Strong organizational and excellent communication skills with proficient computer knowledge
  • Military service members and veterans with ranks E4–E6, W1–W2, or O1–O3
