Required qualifications
- Associate's degree, Advanced Post Secondary diploma, or equivalent military experience
- Knowledge of circuit analysis, AC/DC machinery, and power systems; ability to use hand-held multimeters and read control drawings/schematics
- Troubleshooting skills and ability to recognize electrical hazards; self-motivated with strong communication and organizational skills
- For T1 (0-1 years): Basic understanding of substation equipment and computer proficiency
- For T2 (1-2+ years): Directly related experience in electrical, electro-mechanical, or utility-scale protection work; successful completion of Electrical Equipment development program steps 1-2 or equivalent
- Physical requirements: able to lift 50+ lbs; weight 290 lbs or less; must live within approximately 1 hour of designated work location for after-hours call-out response
About this role
Electrical Equipment Technician (T1/T2) role at Dominion Energy supporting installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of electrical equipment at nuclear and generation facilities in the NOVA Region. Entry-level (T1, 0-1 years) or intermediate (T2, 1-2+ years) position where you'll develop hands-on skills in substation equipment, transformers, circuit breakers, batteries, and protection systems while working alongside senior technicians on nuclear outages and maintenance projects.
Responsibilities
- Participate in installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of electrical equipment (transformers, circuit breakers, CCVTs, PTs, capacitor banks, FACTS devices, batteries) at field facilities
- Perform acceptance testing, oil sampling, and infrared thermography inspections on station and generation equipment
- Support LTC (load tap changer) maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting
- Conduct post-installation maintenance per business area programs and participate in after-hours troubleshooting support
- Develop Pre-Job Briefs identifying hazards and critical tasks; inspect equipment for environmental/safety issues
- Test vacuum bottles, aerial lifts, and maintain substation batteries, cables, and breakers
- Support on-site Electrical Technician organization during nuclear outages as directed
- Apply Cyber Security controls per Dominion Energy standards and complete compliance documentation
Preferred qualifications
- Military service members and veterans (E3-E5, W1-W2, O1-O3; E4-E6 strongly encouraged)
- Education in Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Electronics Technology, Instrumentation Technology, or Mechatronic Technology
- 5 years military experience including at least 1 year technical training in electrical theory, AC/DC circuits, and multimeter applications
Location, schedule, and travel
NOVA Region; 76-100% outdoor work; after-hours response and on-call requirements; must reside within approximately 1 hour of designated work location
