System Protection Technician T1/T2 (Central Region)
About this role
Join Dominion Energy's System Protection Development Program as a Field Operations technician at a nuclear facility. You'll install, maintain, and troubleshoot protective relaying schemes, communication systems, and operational technology equipment across nuclear substations. This structured role builds foundational technical competence through hands-on experience alongside senior engineers, preparing you for independent work on critical nuclear safety systems.
Responsibilities
- —Work alongside senior team members on protective relaying schemes and operational technology systems at nuclear facilities
- —Prepare Pre-Job Briefs to identify hazards and critical tasks
- —Install, commission, and verify functionality of protection and control equipment
- —Inspect, clean, and maintain protective relays and protection components within regulatory maintenance intervals
- —Participate in electromechanical and microprocessor relay repair and troubleshooting
- —Conduct acceptance testing of voltage and current sensing devices (T2 level)
- —Verify engineering protective relay setpoints and logic equations (T2 level)
- —Apply electrical clearance (tagout) and human performance work zone strategies per nuclear safety standards
- —Support on-site operations during nuclear outages as needed
- —Complete compliance documentation and apply cyber security controls per Dominion standards
Qualifications
Associate's degree, Advanced Post Secondary diploma, or equivalent military experience (E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3). For T1: 0-1 years relevant experience. For T2: 1-2 years directly related experience or successful completion of System Protection development program steps 1 & 2. Must have: basic understanding of substation equipment and protection systems, knowledge of electromechanical and microprocessor relay testing, familiarity with IEEE device numbers, ability to use hand-held multimeters, ability to read control drawings and schematics, ability to recognize electrical hazards, good communication skills, computer proficiency.
Desired
Associate's degree or Advanced Post Secondary diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Electromechanical disciplines (by December 2026). Military service experience (E4-E6, W1-W2, or O1-O3 ranks).
