Specific Temporary - Radiation Protection Technician Helper
About this role
Temporary radiation protection support role at Talen's Susquehanna Station (a two-unit pressurized water reactor facility in Pennsylvania). You will assist qualified health physics personnel with radiation monitoring, contamination control, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance under direct supervision. This is an entry-level position ideal for candidates seeking hands-on experience in nuclear health physics.
Responsibilities
- —Operate radiation detection and monitoring equipment; conduct calibration checks and readings per NRC-approved procedures
- —Assist senior radiation protection technicians with contamination surveys, access control, and protective equipment management
- —Maintain proper use of anti-contamination clothing and housekeeping standards; report radiological violations to supervisors
- —Support implementation of Susquehanna Station Emergency Plan (radiological aspects)
- —Maintain working knowledge of radiation physics, contamination detection principles, controlled access/security procedures, NRC regulations (10 CFR), and station-specific procedures
- —Complete required training programs, written/oral exams, and on-the-job qualification modules
Qualifications
- —High school diploma
- —High school-level mathematics and physics (or equivalent)
- —Pass company-provided physical examination and mental fitness assessment
- —Pass Radiation Protection Technician Helper training and selection exam
- —Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License
- —Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment in radiological safety contexts
