About this role
Senior Radiation Protection Technician at Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES), a two-unit pressurized water reactor facility operated by Talen Energy. Lead daily radiation protection activities, supervise RP technicians, conduct ALARA compliance reviews, and provide radiological expertise to support safe station operations with minimal direct supervision.
Responsibilities
- Perform or direct daily activities of Radiation Protection Technicians; organize, plan, schedule, and lead work activities with emphasis on industrial safety
- Specify RP requirements for Radiation Work Permits (RWPs), prepare based on survey results, and provide radiological input to work plans with necessary RP hold points
- Review and approve survey maps and air samples; conduct on-the-job training (OJT) and assist in RP training programs
- Assist RP ALARA Specialist in preparation and conduct of formal ALARA pre-job reviews; evaluate work activities to ensure implementation of Radiation Protection Program
- Write procedures after receiving appropriate training; perform work order (W.O.) screening per station procedures
- Recommend radiological safety precautions for actual or proposed activities; perform heat stress monitoring for RP-related activities
- Assume duties of FIN RP Tech, ALARA RP Tech, Planner RP Tech, Shift Lead Tech, Outage Control Point Tech, and Area RP Tech when assigned
- Participate in lessons learned, root cause, and troubleshooting discussions; research problems and assist RP staff in resolution
- Prepare, store, and process purchase orders to maintain adequate RP supplies and equipment
