About this role
Temporary junior-level position in radiation protection at a Talen nuclear facility. You will conduct radiation and contamination surveys, operate RP instrumentation, monitor equipment, collect and analyze environmental and bioassay samples, and ensure compliance with NRC regulations and station radiological safety procedures under supervision of senior RP staff.
Responsibilities
- —Perform radiation and contamination surveys, record results, and report exceedances per station procedures
- —Operate Radiation Protection equipment and instrumentation; conduct tests and checks per approved procedures
- —Evaluate survey results and post/update radiation, contamination, and airborne status signs
- —Monitor RP equipment, report abnormal conditions, replace charts, and record test results
- —Record required data in RP logs and log sheets
- —Perform equipment and system inspections, document findings, and conduct repairs as directed
- —Collect and analyze air, water, and bioassay samples; calculate concentrations and contamination levels
- —Perform personnel, equipment, and facility decontamination as assigned
- —Distribute and collect personnel monitoring devices and maintain associated records
- —Provide RP coverage at assigned job locations; monitor work conditions and stop work if necessary
- —Assist employees with proper use of monitoring and protective equipment
- —Observe all RP regulations and report violations of procedures or federal regulations
- —Maintain knowledge of RP plans, procedures, safety programs, applicable regulations, and emergency procedures
- —Participate in and successfully complete training and requalification programs including written/oral exams and on-the-job training
- —Comply with station procedures implementing CFR, NRC Regulatory Guides, and National standards
Qualifications
- —High school diploma or equivalent
- —Successful completion of high school level mathematics and physics or equivalent
- —Ability to successfully complete Junior Radiation Protection Technician exam and RP technician training
- —Satisfactory physical and mental condition per company-provided examinations
- —Ability to make independent decisions and exercise judgment in RP technician work
- —Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License
Location
Onsite at Talen nuclear facility; shift work applicable.
