About this role

Oklo is hiring an Environmental Specialist to support environmental compliance, permitting, and field oversight for advanced nuclear reactor development projects in southeastern Idaho. This role requires field presence, technical expertise in nuclear/industrial environmental regulations, and coordination with DOE, NRC, construction, and engineering teams to ensure projects meet all federal and state environmental requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage regular meetings and coordination with Battelle Energy Alliance (BEA), Department of Energy Idaho (DOE-ID), and regulatory agencies
  • Track environmental authorizations, approvals, and permits specific to nuclear and industrial development projects
  • Conduct environmental field inspections and compliance assessments at active nuclear project and construction sites
  • Interpret environmental requirements and implement environmental compliance programs, permits, and site procedures
  • Monitor Oklo teams and contractor compliance with environmental requirements and best management practices (BMPs)
  • Oversee stormwater, erosion/sediment control, dust control, spill prevention, and waste management activities
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring activities including water, air, soil, and radiological waste tracking
  • Prepare environmental reports, inspection logs, permit documentation, and corrective action records
  • Identify environmental compliance issues and implement corrective actions
  • Assist with spill response activities, investigations, and follow-up documentation
  • Interface with NRC, DOE, state, and local regulatory agencies as required
  • Coordinate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to integrate environmental requirements into project planning
  • Track and communicate environmental compliance risks and emerging issues
  • Support environmental audits, readiness reviews, and corrective action programs
  • Participate in field walkdowns, project meetings, and environmental planning discussions
  • Travel periodically to project locations within Idaho and surrounding regions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Ecology, or related technical discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in environmental compliance, construction environmental oversight, industrial operations, or field environmental activities
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations including Clean Water Act, stormwater permitting, spill prevention/response, hazardous waste management, and air quality programs
  • Experience performing environmental inspections and documenting findings
  • Strong technical writing and reporting skills
  • Ability to work safely in active industrial and construction environments
  • Valid driver's license with ability to travel locally
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and field conditions
  • Must reside in southeastern Idaho or be willing to relocate

Desired

  • Experience supporting large infrastructure, energy, industrial, or nuclear projects
  • Familiarity with NRC or DOE nuclear regulatory environments
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • HAZWOPER training
  • Experience with erosion and sediment control programs
  • Experience with environmental management systems or compliance tracking tools
  • GIS, data analysis, or environmental monitoring experience
  • Experience coordinating with contractors and regulatory agencies

Location

Southeastern Idaho, field-oriented with periodic travel to project sites within Idaho and surrounding regions. Must reside in or be willing to relocate to southeastern Idaho.
