Senior Engineer
About this role
Senior Mechanical Engineer designing and analyzing repairs, modifications, and qualifications for reactor vessel internals components in Westinghouse nuclear power plants, including the current operating fleet, AP1000, and AP300. You will perform structural analysis using finite element simulations and hand calculations to qualify component designs within the primary pressure boundary, while incorporating NRC, DOE, and ASME codes and standards.
Responsibilities
- —Perform design and analyses for repair, modification, and qualification of components within the primary pressure boundary of nuclear power plants
- —Use finite element simulations (ANSYS) and hand calculations to qualify component design
- —Collaborate with component, system, and manufacturing leads on subsystem integration and emergent design issues
- —Work with project managers to develop and maintain project schedules
- —Identify and define technical issues, risks, and challenges, directing efforts toward resolution
- —Apply engineering rigor to resolve loosely or partially defined problems using discipline-specific knowledge
- —Incorporate industry, regulatory, NRC/DOE/ASME codes, standards, and criteria into design activities
- —Provide technical guidance and collaborate with personnel including national laboratories, sub-contractors, suppliers, fabricators, and customers
Qualifications
- —BS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or Aerospace Engineering
- —Minimum 5 years of applicable experience
- —Component structural analysis experience
- —Professional Engineer (PE) certification
Desired
- —MS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or Aerospace Engineering
- —Experience with ASME Section III and Section XI criteria
- —Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and ANSYS/ABAQUS
- —Reactor Vessel Internals (RVI) knowledge
- —Knowledge of drawing standards and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Location
Onsite 4 days/week initially, transitioning to 2 days/week; Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
