Safety SW I&C Engineer PLC Control Logic
About this role
Develop and implement PLC-based control logic for Westinghouse's safety-critical I&C (Instrumentation & Control) systems in a regulated nuclear environment. This role offers hands-on experience translating system requirements into deterministic control logic while collaborating with senior engineers on products that protect reactor safety.
Responsibilities
- —Develop, implement, and test PLC-based control logic for I&C Safety System products
- —Translate system and functional requirements into clear, deterministic control logic
- —Contribute to technical documentation for implemented control logic
- —Support verification activities (IV&V and Integrated System Test) to ensure software meets design specifications
- —Collaborate with cross-functional teams on integration activities, hardware interactions, and instrumentation
- —Execute assigned tasks within project schedules and quality expectations
- —Participate in testing, debugging, and resolving technical issues
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field
- —Basic understanding of PLC programming concepts and industrial control systems
- —Experience with any PLC platform
- —Ability to work in cross-functional teams (engineering, testing, manufacturing)
- —Strong attention to detail and commitment to learning in a safety-focused, regulated environment
Desired
- —Exposure to IEC 61131-3 languages (Function Block Diagram, Ladder Logic, Structured Text)
- —Familiarity with PLC architecture (I/O processing and control logic execution)
- —Coursework, internships, or academic projects in control systems or automation
- —Experience with C/C++ in embedded or real-time environments
- —Understanding of real-time or embedded systems
- —Familiarity with structured or waterfall development processes in regulated environments
