About this role

Project Engineer at Entergy responsible for managing and coordinating all technical aspects of new power generation capital projects. The role ensures engineering aligns with corporate goals, oversees contractor performance, and coordinates cross-functional teams from development through commissioning and closeout. This position requires expertise in power systems engineering, compliance with NERC and Security Standards, and leadership of complex multi-disciplinary project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Promote safe behavior and identify engineered safety controls and hazard removal during engineering design
  • Lead and support cross-functional teams including internal Subject Matter Experts, Owners Engineers, EPC Contractors, and Technical Consultants from contract development through permitting, engineering, construction, commissioning and closeout
  • Ensure documentation of engineering and construction quality is adequately captured to support audit and prudency review
  • Lead Owner team in writing Records of Decision to capture prudency of major project decisions
  • Act as Contract Manager for various engineering and construction contracts outside of the EPC, including Owner's Engineer
  • Review engineering design to assure compliance with contract, permits, codes, and utility standards while supporting strategic, operational and maintenance goals
  • Coordinate with Project Manager to follow the Project Delivery System and produce associated deliverables
  • Participate in contractor and vendor selection process to assess engineering experience, competencies, and capability
  • Lead and support technical open book engineering process with contractors and apply value engineering concepts
  • Assist Contractor and Vendors during design and construction to resolve technical queries and interfaces
  • Ensure all firms solicited for engineering services are duly licensed in the state of the project
  • Assure project compliance with NERC and Security Standards
  • Ensure all project documents are stored in designated repository at closeout
  • Support and lead change management process for potential design changes
  • Participate in equipment inspection activities as agreed with Contractor
  • Support Owner review and signoff of System Turnover packages from Construction to Start-up and from EPC to Owner
  • Support commissioning and ensure performance, reliability and emissions testing are completed per contract

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with progressive professional experience in engineering design, construction or operation of power systems (0-3 years for Project Engineer I; 3+ years for Project Engineer II; 4+ years for Project Engineer III; 6+ years for Senior; 10+ years for Senior Lead; 12+ years for Senior Staff). Expert knowledge of engineering fundamentals within at least one discipline (civil/mechanical/electrical/controls/chemical/construction). Advanced knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology to power generation. Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills with strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office 365. Strong interpersonal skills and leadership behaviors.

Desired

Fossil (gas) plant experience, preferably in combined cycle (CCGT) technology and/or construction. Advanced degree (MS or higher).

Location

Onsite in The Woodlands, TX; relocation assistance available for candidates outside the area.
