Principal Mechanical Engineer
About this role
Principal Mechanical Engineer at Westinghouse's Parts Business (New Stanton facility). Lead design, testing, and manufacturing oversight of pump sealing systems for nuclear power plant applications. Drive product innovation through R&D efforts, support forensic analysis, and collaborate across engineering, quality, supply chain, and customer service teams to enhance plant safety and reliability.
Responsibilities
- —Function as responsible engineer for pump sealing systems in nuclear power plant applications, ensuring compliance with nuclear qualification standards
- —Design, test, and oversee manufacturing of pump seals/sealing systems for harsh nuclear environments (main coolant, reactor coolant systems)
- —Prepare and review technical packages including engineering drawings, specifications, and procurement requirements
- —Lead R&D efforts for pump seal product design changes and enhancements; support forensic failure analysis and prepare technical reports
- —Collaborate with cross-functional teams (quality engineering, supply chain, marketing, customer service, supplier management)
- —Provide technical input to customer proposals and engineering consultation to product management, manufacturing, and operations
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; 7+ years of experience in pump seal/sealing systems design; experience with seal testing, test setup design, and qualification; data analysis from seal testing programs; experience with nuclear plant qualification programs for Structures, Systems, and Components (SSCs); technical writing for equipment procurement specifications and requirements
Desired
15+ years of experience; experience with Nuclear/Main Coolant Pump (MCP) equipment and systems
Location
New Stanton facility, Pennsylvania. Hybrid role requiring on-site presence 2–3 days per week.
