Principal Engineer, Mechanical
About this role
Principal Engineer, Mechanical at Constellation Energy provides advanced engineering problem-solving in direct support of nuclear plant operations. This is a senior technical role requiring expertise in mechanical engineering disciplines, applicable industry codes (ASME, etc.), and nuclear regulatory requirements. You'll function at a recognized industry level of expertise, making independent technical decisions that impact plant safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- —Perform advanced engineering problem-solving, independent research, and technical analyses supporting plant safety, reliability, maintainability, and availability initiatives
- —Provide in-depth technical expertise on equipment and system problems; recommend solutions, equipment modifications, and new techniques to improve performance, reduce costs, or ensure code/regulatory compliance
- —Develop, review, and approve engineering designs, modifications, and analyses to ensure compliance with applicable safety analyses, ASME codes, regulatory requirements, and corporate policies
- —Lead design modifications, testing programs, and troubleshooting activities; manage configuration management and adherence to standard design criteria
- —Supervise engineering personnel, manage budgets, and coordinate outage planning and execution
- —Provide on-call coverage and direct support during plant outages and emergency situations
Qualifications
- —Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil/Structural, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering
- —10+ years of professional engineering experience
- —Current access or ability to obtain and maintain required security/access clearance and pass medical examination per position requirements
Desired
- —Minimum 10 years experience in combustion turbine (GE 7HA, Siemens 501G or similar) or steam turbine mechanical engineering and field support
- —Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Master's/PhD in engineering or physical science
- —Recognized fleet/industry expert status
- —Leadership experience: site/corporate (HIT leads, outage project management, issue termination lead, troubleshooting lead) or industry (EPRI committee chair, owners group involvement, industry initiative lead)
Location
On-site at nuclear plant facility with on-call and outage coverage requirements. Salary range: $151,200–$168,000 based on experience.
