Nuclear Plant Operator in Training
About this role
Talen Energy's Nuclear Plant Operator in Training (NPOIT) program is a comprehensive pathway to Nuclear Plant Operator (NRC License) certification. Trainees complete structured classroom instruction, pass NRC-administered exams, and gain hands-on control room and in-plant experience under supervision. Successful completion leads to eligibility for NRC operator licensing.
Responsibilities
Participate in structured lectures, examinations, and training evolutions during the classroom phase
Perform control room duties under supervision to develop knowledge and proficiency in plant operations, equipment systems, and procedures
Perform in-plant duties to develop operational expertise and system understanding
Follow all nuclear power plant procedures, technical specifications, regulations (10 CFR 55), and site-specific instructions
Qualifications
Two-year Associate Degree in Nuclear Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, or Applied Science; OR successful completion of the U.S. Naval Nuclear Power Training Program
Passing score on the Operator Helper Selection Examination
Demonstrated ability to follow procedures, rules, regulations, and instructions
Satisfactory physical and psychological condition as determined by company-provided examination
Valid Pennsylvania driver's license
Medical qualification per 10 CFR 55.11(a)(1) and (a)(2)
