About this role

Nuclear Instrument Technician position (Level I/II/III) at Dominion nuclear power plants, maintaining and calibrating safety-related instrumentation and control systems. Role involves both shop and field work in normal and radiological areas, with progression based on experience and training completion. Technicians work on analog and digital control systems including microprocessor, electronic, and pneumatic instrumentation for pressure, temperature, and flow sensors across all modes of plant operation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, calibration, and testing of safety-related equipment associated with electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation and control systems
  • Work on analog and digital control systems including microprocessor, electronic, and pneumatic instrumentation for pressure, temperature, and flow sensors
  • Troubleshoot and correct anomalous operations of indicators, controllers, and instrument loops using advanced test equipment
  • Assist with scheduled preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and calibration activities
  • Complete documentation accurately and comply with approved procedures and work management processes
  • Comply with equipment clearances, radiological work permits, and safety regulations
  • Perform maintenance and testing in reactor containment and radiological areas during all modes of plant operation
  • Apply human performance practices to promote error-free performance
  • Complete initial and on-the-job training as required by the Nuclear Instrument Technician Training Program

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of related experience (Tech I); 6 years industrial or Navy nuclear experience (Tech II); 5 years I&C experience with minimum 1 year nuclear (Tech III)
  • Successful completion of Instrument and Control Technician qualification test
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of electronic equipment and circuitry
  • Familiarity with theories of instrumentation and control in nuclear power stations
  • Ability to troubleshoot analog and digital instrumentation and control circuits
  • General familiarity with electrical and mechanical physical/dimensional measurements
  • Ability to interpret diagrams, prints, and written procedural instructions
  • Physical ability to carry minimum 50 pounds of tooling and equipment
  • Ability and willingness to use respirators, SCBA bottles, fall protection, and other safety equipment
  • Ability to work at varying elevations, confined quarters, and radiological areas

Desired

  • Commercial nuclear power experience
  • Nuclear Navy (ET or EM) experience
  • Military electronic experience from any Armed Forces Service (Tech II)
  • Navy Nuclear Propulsion training program completion (Tech II)
  • Completion of Step 3 of I&C Development Program (Tech III)

Location

Field and shop work in normal and radiological areas of nuclear power plant; work at varying elevations and confined spaces; must be willing to make containment entries.
