Required qualifications

High school diploma required. Minimum 2 years related experience in instrumentation, electronics, or controls; 1 year nuclear power plant experience. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot analog/digital instrumentation and control circuits and interpret diagrams, prints, and procedural instructions. Ability to use respirators, SCBA bottles, fall protection, and other safety equipment. Willingness to work at varying elevations, confined spaces, and radiological areas. Physical capability to carry minimum 50 pounds of tooling and equipment.

About this role

Nuclear Instrument Technician role at Dominion Energy's Surry plant. Maintain, calibrate, and test safety-related instrumentation and control systems (analog/digital, microprocessor, electronic, pneumatic) for pressure, temperature, and flow sensors. Work spans shop environments and radiological areas across all plant operating modes. Positions available at Level I, II, or III based on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, calibration, and testing of safety-related equipment for electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation/control systems
  • Work on analog and digital control systems including microprocessor, electronic, and pneumatic instrumentation for pressure, temperature, and flow sensors
  • Troubleshoot anomalous operations of indicators, controllers, and instrument loops using advanced test equipment
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance and calibration activities
  • Perform work in reactor containment and radiological areas during all plant operating modes
  • Complete documentation per approved procedures and Work Management processes; comply with Equipment Clearances and Radiological Work permits
  • Complete Nuclear Instrument Technician Training Program and on-the-job training
  • Apply human performance practices to ensure error-free performance

Preferred qualifications

Associate degree in Instrumentation Technology or related discipline. Commercial nuclear power plant experience. Nuclear Navy experience (ET or EM rates). For Tech II: Navy Nuclear Propulsion training completion with 6+ years hands-on ET experience, or 6+ years industrial instrumentation/controls experience. For Tech III: Successful completion of National Academy for Nuclear Training-accredited Nuclear Instrument Technician Development Program. Military electronic experience (any Armed Force Services).

Location, schedule, and travel

Onsite at Surry plant (Virginia PWR). Up to 25% travel. Exposure conditions: up to 25% loud noise, up to 25% radiation. Work environment: 26–50% office, remainder field/shop. Must be physically capable of confined spaces and varying elevations.
